The Magic of Villa La Foce: History and Masterpiece Gardens

Dreaming of a destination wedding in Tuscany means picturing rolling hills, cypress-lined avenues, and estates steeped in history. For Lili and Howard, a wonderful American couple, this dream came to life within the walls and gardens of one of Italy’s most iconic and breathtaking properties: Villa La Foce. From our very first meeting, an incredible feeling was sparked with them and their friends, turning every moment of the wedding into a profound human experience as much as an elegant event.

The Magic of Villa La Foce: History and Masterpiece Gardens

Located in the heart of the Val d’Orcia (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Villa La Foce is more than just a venue; it is a monument to beauty and resilience. The villa was purchased in 1924 by Antonio and Iris Origo, who transformed a desolate land into a flourishing estate and a vibrant cultural hub.

The true jewel of the property is its Italian garden, considered the masterpiece of English architect Cecil Pinsent. Created between 1925 and 1939, the garden is designed in geometric “rooms” enclosed by box hedges that frame spectacular views of Mount Amiata and the famous zig-zag road lined with cypress trees—one of the most photographed symbols of Tuscany in the world.

An American Wedding Excellence: From the Getting Ready to the Limonaia

Lili and Howard’s wedding was a tribute to conviviality and timeless style. The day began with the getting ready inside the villa’s historic rooms, spaces that still preserve the rustic yet aristocratic charm of local antique furnishings.

The Ceremony: Held in the incredible setting of the Italian garden, where the scent of roses and wisteria accompanied the exchange of vows under the moved gaze of friends and family, all of whom traveled from the United States for the occasion.

Aperitivo and Dancing: The celebration then moved to the Limonaia, a versatile and light-filled space. Here, amidst signature cocktails and music, the Limonaia transformed into a dance floor under the stars, sealing the union between the couple and their guests in an atmosphere of pure joy. Thank you Lili and Howard for letting us spend a wonderful day with you and your friends, it was amazing. Endless thanks, as always, to @andrea_fondelli

Timeless Elegance – Portraits in the Italian Garden

From Emotional First Looks to Portraits in the Iconic Italian Garden

The day began in the villa’s historic suites, where the getting ready captured the quiet anticipation of the morning. The emotions peaked during the First Looks: first with Lili’s father, a moment of pure pride, and then with Howard, set against the timeless stone architecture. Following the ceremony, we explored the world-famous Italian Garden. Designed by Cecil Pinsent for Antonio and Iris Origo between 1925 and 1939, these geometric box hedges and cypress alleys frame the famous zig-zag road, providing a backdrop that defines the essence of Tuscan elegance.

The Celebration – Aperitivo, Wild Dances, and the Cake

Sunset Aperitivo and Wild Dances: The Magic of the Limonaia

As the golden hour hit, the celebration moved to the Limonaia. This historic structure, once used to shelter citrus trees, transformed into a vibrant hub of conviviality. The American guests brought an incredible energy to the aperitivo, which transitioned seamlessly into a night of wild dancing and the traditional cake cutting under the stars.

Getting to Villa La Foce is part of the experience: located near Chianciano Terme (Siena), it is easily reached via the A1 motorway (exit Chiusi-Chianciano Terme) or by train to the Chiusi-Chianciano Terme station, making it a perfect hub for exploring Pienza and Montepulciano.
